Siblings.

So um. You may notice I’m not hand-letting anymore. It’s a time-consuming thing and the end result honestly doesn’t look good enough to me for it to be worth it. Sorry to everyone who participated in my critique thread, because although I learned a lot, and found it valuable, I think I ultimately wasted your time. My chicken-scratch hand just isn't up to it. I'll be going back and redoing the lettering for this chapter, so at least that will be consistent.

I personally didn't notice the difference for about 5 seconds! Honestly, I kinda liked your handwriting but this is pretty good too.

Also, it would hurt for those two drips of coffee to spill on his arm.

Ooh I didn't realise it looked like it was going on his arm. Ouch!
Memoria Caelestie
well I would wonder also why he is so nice but yeaaaaaaaaaaah maybe not make a comment about it huh!

Yeah Jon doesn't get to be grumpy all the time then suddenly act nice and wonder why everyone's suspicious lol. But Seth should know better.

I tend to believe siblings generally are only nice to each other if there's something they get out of it.

But there are times they can be actually honestly nice...sometimes. LOL

Haha yeah, sometimes we're nice to each other just to be nice, but the other always ASSUMES they want something out of it.

Suspicious Seth is suspicious...

About the lettering, you have to do what's best for you, Period. The hand lettering was a nice touch, but this font is just fine! :)

Hard to blame him, considering how grouchy Jon usually is!

And thanks, it's made the process so much faster now I've stopped hand-lettering, and the text takes up a little less space now, so I'm pretty happy with it. It is a shame to leave it behind, but I guess something had to give.

Whatever it takes to make sure we get more WoT (the least apropos name ever, since the comic is anything but a waste of time).

Good morning Jon, you're... uh... looking wide today.
Mel C. edit delete reply
Mel C.
I'm trying to draw everyone with SLIGHTLY more realistic proportions but yeah, it does mean some inconsistencies in size. I'm always learning!
anonymous coward (Guest) edit delete reply
Oh, if this is model/proportions issues then I'd note that his head and neck proportions are similar to Seth with a torso that looks more than twice as wide and arms that are slightly thicker.

The joke I thought this might be leading into is that he's looking so wide because he visited a H.R. Giger showing of some kind and now he's pregnant with a xenomorph.

I understand that handwriting can take up time and be awkward to read, although I'm not entirely convinced that your replacement is any better. I find it harder to read than before, and have a couple of suggestions:

*Increase the font size - there's a lot of room around the speech bubbles

*Make the font wider. At least to my eyes, a comic is easier to read if the characters are fairly square, similar to before. I'd suggest maybe creating a font that resembles your handwriting since it will fit in with the style of your comic better - I know this website where you can download a template, print it out/fill the characters in (you can ink it digitally if you have a tablet) and upload it, and it will give you a font package that you can install. I created one from my handwriting recently.

I hope this will help you improve.

On the lighter side, didn't you post a sketch of that sleeping position a few months ago?

Thanks for your feedback. :) I'll look into adjusting the font--I'll agree that it is pretty narrow, but there's actually a way I can make the same font wider. The magic of Photoshop! As for the size of the text compared to the size of the bubbles, that's actually something I spotted, and I've fixed it in later pages. That being said, should the text be bigger in general? Is it difficult to read because it's too small?

And yeah, I posted the sketch of panel 1 in the WIP thread a while ago. My buffer can be anywhere from 4 pages to 12 pages but I still like to share my progress so I end up showing WIPs of pages that won't be seen for months lol oops

I also have an alternative font in reserve--when choosing a new font I was stuck between two, so I may just go with my second choice, since it was a very close competition!
