Oh no! Isn't that just the way life goes. Poor Jon. It sucks to feel out of place.

Indeed, being a gooseberry, even just for two friends (or especially for two friends?) is not fun :(

Player Class Insecurity level up!
+3 to self-recrimination
+4 to despairing sighs
+8 to oblivious self-sabotage

I think this should really translate as a level drain, not a level up. Personal opinion.

It is generally a pretty bad nerf in terms of what it does for character capability, but it was a development based on experience and character actions instead of some fantasy necromancer hitting them with a drain life spell. Because of that it is not a level drain, but instead it is a level up of a class that most people wouldn't want. It's pretty similar to how age and physical decay levels up the similarly negative class Geriatric which should be in your HPG on page 117. That's near the beginning of the section where they list all the penalty character classes if I remember correctly, I forget what the page number was for Insecurity but it's in the same chapter.

I tried to think of something clever to say to this, but I got nothing, I just like this comment a lot!

Someone has to take up the torch of absurdist comedy. Webcomics are great because they give me both material to work with and someone else's audience to play to, thank you for your comic. :)

Anna has already made it clear through the time they went to lunch that she values John as a friend in his own right.

On the other hand, John is notorious for being himself, so really the only three ways this could go are 1) John misconstrues Anna saying something like "I don't mind being alone with you" as romantic when it's not, and flubs everything up, 2) Anna actually tries to talk to John about his emotions and he pulls a Seth to avoid being vulnerable, and flubs everything up, or 3) Anna just goes about this in normal friend way and John feels trapped and dejected, offends Anna, and flubs everything up.

You have three guesses as to the common thread, and the first two don't count.

(I may seem pessimistic, but it's win-win for me as a JohnXAnna shipper - if I'm right, I'm not caught off-guard and thus feel slightly less soul-rending shippression; if I'm wrong, the shock and excitement will be more genuine! Pessimism has its perks for a fan.)

"Notorious for being himself" that should be his tagline.

I've never heard the term "shippression" before, but it makes perfect sense and I'm sorry I put you through this! To be sure, it's not easy being a JonXAnna shipper...
